My Pirate Name

Dread Pirate Flint

Like the famous Dread Pirate Roberts, you have a keen head for how to make a profit. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

To find out your Pirate name click the blog title.

This is My Life, Annie

I just received my International Register of Certificated Auditors certification for QMS 2000 internal auditing.

I suppose it is time that I accept that I am an auditor.

Being Annie Leibowitz was probably too lofty of a goal. Even getting one cover of Rolling Stone was probably too lofty.

I might be able to get the cover of American Socitey for Quality...

Self Preservation

Do you think that you could kill someone in self-defense?

Sore and Tired

I am sore and tired. Sore probably from Kung Fu, tired probably from a combination of too much and not enough sleep. Sigh.

Kung Fu exhibition was fun. It was long, but most of the skits were pretty good this year (with Encinitas being the best, again.) They were SO FUNNY! I love my boys and girls. Mr. N was...classic. Their Kung Fu skit theme? "Battle of the bands." It was great. Picture boy band versus aging glam rock fighting it out with Kung Fu.

Yeah, you've got it.

Unmitigated Fury

Did you know that to be considered for the $170 million in "Abstinence-Only" sex education funding you legally CANNOT teach a curriculum that informs students how to properly use contraceptives. In fact, the only thing you can say about contraceptives is what the failure rates are.

Be sure you know what lies are being told to your children.

It's all in the Timing

When I say NOW is all you have, I don't mean that you should party like it's 1999, I am still a proponent of forethought and planning, but I do mean that you still have to find joy in your life as it stands now.

As it was said in an interview recently with a man who released some new Princess Di videos "She didn't know she was going to die." (In response to the question of whether or not he felt he was exploiting her.) I think he is probably wrong... I mean we all know we are going to die. But the real meaning to that answer is that none of us, except perhaps Terry Prachet's Wizards, know the time, date, and circumstances of our own demise until such a time, date, and circumstance arises.

The most tragic stories I can think of, and the ones that bother me the most because injustice is my biggest pet peeve, are the stories where someone waits their whole life for one thing to happen and then dies right before attaining it.

Don't let that be you.

My Fletcher

I had a remarkably interesting and thought-provoking conversation with my good friend yesterday. It resulted not only in the comment "You have life by the balls!" but also a realization that the continued belief that life starts tomorrow, when I am out of this job and onto the new and better life waiting for me around the corner, is an amazing misperception. I imagine that for me, life will always be around the corner until I choose to realize that life is now, no matter what form it takes, and NOW is all you ever have.

Brain Child

I would have never thought it possible, but I have a new brain child book idea. It is growing sloppily out of stolen minutes of frantic typing, but none-the-less, a Book other than the fantasy series that TOR didn't want is beginning to blossom.

I think the reason it is finding its way onto the page is mostly because it is modern fiction. Unlike the series that still simmers in the back of my mind, this one is set in the US, with common Americans, and no prophecies or magic or sages...just a regular family.

I don't want to write too much about it because it doesn't really have form yet, but I am glad that something else can pass the time between now and when I can get around to a page one rewrite of Book 1. I will call the other New Book for now. We will have to wait to see what happens with it.
