Self Preservation

Do you think that you could kill someone in self-defense?

You're kidding right?

Not really. I have to wonder. I have been trained to kill people with my bare hands. It is an instinct that is being cultivated for the purposes of self-defense, and yet when actually brought to it, I don't know if I could do it. I don't WANT to do it, don't get me wrong, but I wonder if instinct overtakes thought and morality and ethics in a moment of crisis.

Question - Do you think I would be kidding because you would do it automatically, or because you would never do it?

That question alone makes it a valid inquiry.

As a side note, one of the other things I have been trained to do is kick out someone's knee cap. This is something that I actually do not think I could do because I associate that with great pain, having experienced massive knee trauma.

Chopping someone to the neck and cutting off their air supply or crushing their trachea has less tangible meaning for me because I don't know what that would feel like. Instinctually I would go for that a lot quicker than the knee because I am opposed to knee pain on a gutteral level.

Yeouch. All I can hope is that you never find yourself in that kind of position...
