New Floors - Day 3 - Sub A
At the same time that the tile was being removed and then installed, the piano was removed and stored, forty feet from it's home, in the garage. It was a rough forty.
Where it lived mere hours ago . . .
The emptiness that is the former home of a piano . . .
The poor thing has been mummified. But I trust that no bugs will get in. Or out. I suppose there could be bugs in there now, trying to flee the cacophony that is a remodel. None the less, it is stored securely.
Getting there was not an easy process. The guys that showed up were super nice and very young (I'm guessing 19?) and while the owner of the company, Max, had an eager attitude, I knew there were going to be issues right away. Wearing a tank top isn't that big of a deal, but not wearing a back brace while moving a piano is a huge problem. They didn't have any of the correct moving materials for a piano. I've had this piano in three different houses now. I usually use a moving company that specializes in pianos (I can't remember their names, though, so I didn't call them!) According to Yelp, these guys were good with pianos. But I don't see how you can be with only a standard moving cart and none of the piano moving acutrements that I am used to. No piano "sled" (for lack of a better term) to get your piano up and down stairs safely. No piano harnesses that allow the movers to remain upright while lifting the piano primarily with their legs and not their backs. No back braces, as previously mentioned. And no third person to make sure the piano doesn't tip over.
You have to be kidding me. Nice, yes. Professional, in attitude, yes, in application, less so. Oh well. The piano made it safely to the garage and I am glad it is out of the house for the project and extra glad that SPF didn't try and do on his own what the nice mover boys did. Yikes.
